Proclamation

City of Dade City, Florida

"HELP THE HOMELESS MONTH"

WHEREAS, the mission of the Help the Homeless Program is to raise the awareness of the issue of homelessness and to increase the number of resource organizations working to prevent and end homelessness. The Help the Homeless Program fosters volunteerism in service to homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless; and

WHEREAS, there are over 754,000 men, women, and children throughout the United States that are living on the streets, staying in shelters, or living in transitional housing. Currently there is an estimated 1,300 homeless people throughout Pasco County with 225 of those being located in the Dade City, Trilby, Lacoochee, and Trilacoochee areas; and

WHEREAS, Journey Village Pasco to open in April 2008, will be a transitional housing center and a place of assistance to those in need of a hand up or a chance to get back on their feet. Journey Village Pasco will offer social services and job assistance to help homeless individuals transition into mainstream society while providing a safe place to stay; and

WHEREAS, during the month of January, Dade City residents are encouraged to donate their time and skills, along with monetary donations, to support local homeless projects.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, P. Hutchison "Hutch" Brock, II, as Mayor of Dade City, Florida, do hereby proclaim January 2008 to be "HELP THE HOMELESS MONTH" in Dade City and encourage our citizens to assist in putting an end to homelessness. We urge all our citizens to promote and participate in assisting our homeless population.
